How much solar does my home need?
A simple rule of thumb, a worked example and the roof space you'll need.

Start with your units, not your bill
Look at the 'units consumed' on your last 6–12 MSEDCL bills and take the average. That's the number solar has to cover.
In Maharashtra, 1 kW of panels generates about 120 units a month on average. Divide your monthly units by 120 to get the system size.
A worked example
A home using 320 units a month needs about 320 ÷ 120 ≈ 2.7 kW — so a 3 kW system.
That 3 kW system needs about 240 sq. ft of shadow-free roof and qualifies for the full ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy.
Plan for tomorrow
Buying an EV, AC or induction cooktop soon? Size a little higher — adding panels later costs more per kW than doing it once.
