Basics
Typically ₹55,000–75,000 per kW before subsidy, depending on brand and structure. A 3 kW on-grid system usually costs ₹1.5–1.9 lakh, and after the ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy the net cost is roughly ₹0.8–1.1 lakh.
In Maharashtra a well-installed system generates about 4 units per kW per day — around 120 units per kW each month on average.
Subsidy
Residential electricity consumers installing a grid-connected rooftop system with DCR (domestic content) panels through the national portal. The subsidy is ₹30,000/kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the 3rd kW, capped at ₹78,000.
After commissioning and net-meter installation, the claim is submitted on the portal; the subsidy is credited directly to your bank account, typically within a few weeks.
Yes — group housing societies and RWAs get ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW (subject to scheme rules).
Technical
On-grid is best for city homes with reliable power (lowest cost, highest savings). Hybrid adds battery backup for power cuts. Off-grid suits places without a dependable grid.
On-grid systems switch off automatically for line-worker safety (anti-islanding). If you need backup, choose a hybrid system with batteries.
TOPCon offers the highest efficiency today; Mono PERC is proven and economical; bifacial panels add 5–15% on elevated or reflective installations. For subsidy you need DCR panels.
About 80 sq. ft of shadow-free area per kW. Metal-sheet and RCC roofs both work.
Ownership
Panels carry performance warranties of 25–30 years (as per manufacturer). Inverters typically last 10–15 years.
